The many ways your organisation can fail

Some of these are will kill your organisation. Others are zombie-states – living deaths where your organisation seems to be alive but may as well be dead.

  • If you run out of money
  • If no one wants to work with you
  • If no-one wants what you’re offering
  • … at the price that you’re offering it
  • If you lose your vision
  • … or cease to care
  • If you compromise your values
  • If you don’t make plans
  • … or can’t execute on them
  • … or don’t update your plans in response to what happens in the world
  • If you chase after each and every opportunity
  • … or are unable to take any opportunities
  • If you fail to like and take care of your people
  • … or your people fail to like and take care of each other
  • If you’re keeping things going by sacrificing things that (should) matter more
  • If you don’t keep showing up
  • … with energy and belief
  • If you’re not working yourself out of a job
  • If no one cares about what you do
  • … and you can’t convince anyone that they should care
  • If you stop learning
  • If you won’t take risks
  • If there are no younger people joining you
  • If the wrong combination of bad things happens
  • If you make the wrong enemies
  • If you break the law
  • If you can’t develop the whole product
  • If someone else is offering your users a better, more affordable, easier to use whole product
  • If no-one’s having fun
