JustinGuitar
For those who came in later than I did… If you’re looking for online guitar resources, start with Justin Guitar.
Justin Sandercoe started doing things online in 2003, and his first free YouTube lesson is from November 2006. He’s made hundreds of videos and structured courses to take you from complete beginner to pretty good. He has a great (free) website and an app too. Highly recommended.
Tomo Fujita Music
In some ways Tomo Fujita is the anti-Justin… he’s certainly the antidote to the Tik-Tok and Reels approach to online tuition, and his videos are an excellent complement to a systematic course. He’s a professional guitarist and long-time teacher at Berklee and in his free videos he teaches fundamentals – most of them still well above my level, but also really useful – in a clear, funny and theory-grounded way, focusing on the sound, rhythm and feel of the music rather than on notation or patterns on the fretboard. He’s already joined up many dots in my very basic understanding of how music works, and added many new dots for the future. tremendous.
